by Hope
Last post
May 20th
...See more Hi everyone! I hope you are doing well. I have once again come across a quote that makes me go 'I need to share this with people who can obsess over this with me'  so here I am hoping such people can find this thread and together we can reflect on a weekly thought! I will try to post 1-2 times per week, feel free to hold me accountable with a message. The goal is to just share these incredible quotes with everyone else. Heads up, almost all of them will be in relevance to the stoic philosophy and focused on hyper-accountability and discipline. You are welcome to check out spark of the week [https://www.7cups.com/forum/teens/TeenZoneCommunityTeam_590/PresentingSparkoftheWeek_325922/] instead for light hearted quotes and reflections!  There is no tag list form for this but you can say tag me in your message and I will tag you when I post the new quote/reflection and if you say remove me, you will be removed. No hard feelings!  What do you do on this thread? Upto you! Here are some options * Read and leave! * Read and heart away the quote(s) you like * Read and comment your thoughts * Subscribe to the thread by clicking the bookmark icon. When I or anyone else posts in this thread, you will get a notification Covered Quotes * "You could be good today but instead you choose tomorrow!" Marcus Aurelius  * 'While we wait for life, life passes" - Seneca * “How long are you going to wait before you demand the best for yourself?” - Epictetus * “Stick to what’s in front of you — idea, action, utterance.” — Marcus Aurelius * First say to yourself what you would be, and then do what you have to do.” - Epictetus * "Begin each day by telling yourself: Today I shall be meeting with interference, ingratitude, insolence, disloyalty, ill-will, and selfishness – all of them due to the offender’s ignorance of what is good or evil." - Marcus Aurelius * "Observe always that everything is the result of change, and get used to thinking that there is nothing Nature loves so well as to change existing forms and make new ones like them" - Marcus Aurelius  * "It is not because things are difficult that we do not dare; it is because we do not dare that they are difficult." - Seneca * 'Withdraw into yourself, as far as you can. Associate with those who will make a better man of you. Welcome those whom you yourself can improve. The process is mutual; for men learn while they teach.' - Seneca * The greatest obstacle to living is expectancy, which hangs upon tomorrow and loses today. You are arranging what lies in Fortune’s control, and abandoning what lies in yours. What are you looking at? To what goal are you straining? The whole future lies in uncertainty: live immediately. - Marcus Aurelius * 'Enjoy present pleasures in such a way as not to injure future ones.' - Seneca * Withdraw into yourself, as far as you can. Associate with those who will make a better man of you. Welcome those whom you yourself can improve. The process is mutual; for men learn while they teach. -Seneca

...See more today is self care saturday for me.  i decided that i wanted to get back into my healthy habits so i could feel better about myself on a daily basis. one of those healthy habits included journaling. i made my journal entry and thought i’d share what that was like for me.  i started off with a quote i found, it reads, “every sunrise is a reminder that you have a new day to fill with positivity and possibility.” my journal prompts :  • five things i am grateful for • intention for the day • who do i want to be for myself and others? • affirmations to me, journaling is a very good mind exercise, especially in the mornings and before bed. journaling really do help you to feel better about yourself, and even better throughout the day. if you’re someone who’s into journaling or would love to start, feel free to use my provided journal prompt as your first entry 💗
New Me day 1

...See more Not really a new me is my intention. It’s the me without alcohol. Changing the vision of myself back to who I always wanting to be requires me to quit alcohol. Without alcohol I can get back doing what I really want to do. That’s not laying in bed for a few days drinking or even a single drink. It’s not the way I see myself any longer. Today is day 1. I intend on using this to update my progress towards objectives and how I’m enjoying the path.

...See more So hi everyone been a solid minute since I've posted here and all and I've been meaning to ask a question or recommendations, now for context a while back I went to make a bucket list to try and distract myself from my issues regarding unemployment and while sure I was able to work on the basics like reading a few books/comics and etc I just feel like I've been stuck because honestly the anxiety of being pressed for time and not having many ideas has been eating away at me, any suggestions would help a ton

Boundaries

...See more I did it, I actually did it. A couple days ago my sister gave me this book to read called The Mountain Is You. A book about self-sabotage and I didn't want to read it at first but she insisted so I did. And it was a good book, quite insightful. Made me realize I wasn't really being honest with myself or with those around me. So, before I lost my nerve I sat down and had an honest discussion with my parents about responsibility, boundaries and the overall dynamic of the household. Which was very scary for me to be honest, because their reactions to honesty in the past were not very positive, but I stuck to my guns. Was shaking the whole time but I powered through and did my best to get my points across. That I was overwhelmed by the workload they always tend to throw on me. The stress of basically parenting everyone and the toll of being emotionally responsible for everyone but myself. Both responded quite positively and said they'd make changes. While I don't know if that's true just yet I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt this time.  The most important part here is that I declared my boundaries, and am going to in the best of my ability keep it up. Just last week I was breaking down because of the work I had to do. Falling behind in my classes, trying to juggle all these extra programs I got signed up for and making sure my siblings had food on the table. I was nearing my limit and ready for a complete shut-down. Which is why my sister suggested the book in the first place. I always refused to ask for help or even complain because it was always met with this is life. Life isn't easy, so just keep quiet and keep pushing. Until you can't and at the time I couldn't. Saying no has always been hard for me, and it always seemed easier to roll over and say yes to avoid conflict but it would always leave me half-dead and emotionally drained in the end.  Today marks the day I put myself first. That I take care of my mental health and prioritize my sanity. I am terrified of what's coming next but also equally excited for this new chapter.
